MBRC MAYOR TO FACE COURT

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan
Sutherland will attend Brisbane Magistrates Court
on Wednesday 5th of February, to hear charges
brought against him following his arrest just
AFTER THE FIRES before Christmas.
On 18th December 2019, Cr Sutherland was arrested
and charged with two counts of misconduct in
What Now?
What Now? was suspended from Council duties on full pay, with
public office. Following his arrest, Cr Sutherland
Deputy Mayor Mike Charleton, stepping into the role
of Acting Mayor.
Having already made the announcement that
he would not run as a Mayoral candidate in the
upcoming local council elections, to be held Saturday
28th March 2020, the arrest of Cr Sutherland comes
just three months short of his planned retirement,
after sixteen years as Mayor of Moreton Bay Regional
Council and former Redcliffe City Council.
In April 2017, Cr Sutherland gave evidence at a Crime
and Corruption Commission hearing, as part of their
investigation into allegations of corrupt conduct
by members of several Queensland local councils,
including Moreton Bay Regional Council. The arrest Mayor Allan Sutherland addressing Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull,
